Sophie Edmondson

Principal Inspector, Active Travel England

At Active Travel England, Sophie is responsible for supporting all Combined Authorities and their constituent Local Authority partners in England with raising the design quality of their active travel infrastructure.

Her team provide advice and design assurance on schemes ranging from Active Travel Fund to City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements and Levelling Up Fund programmes.

Her background is in Behaviour Change and Sponsorship, with experience leading the delivery of London’s strategic cycling network amid some of the most complex network and stakeholder challenges. During the pandemic, she delivered most of TfL’s temporary street works, many of which have now evolved to become permanent facilities.

More recently at DfT, as Deputy Transport Bill Manager she was responsible for parliamentary preparations for legislation to enable new transport technologies - aiming to accelerate decarbonisation and safety of our transport systems.
