Phil is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 35 years’ experience in traffic engineering, transport planning and urban design. Phil specialises in achieving synergy between transport and urbanism, with the aim of creating places, streets and spaces that meet aesthetic, social and functional aims.
He founded Phil Jones Associates in 2003; the PJA group now provides services in transport planning, engineering and placemaking and employs over 100 staff based in six UK offices and Melbourne, Australia.
His experience includes preparing transport strategies for major developments and leading street and urban design projects in villages, towns and cities.
In 2019 Phil was appointed by the Welsh Government to chair Task Forces advising how to introduce a default 20mph speed limit for urban areas and controls on pavement parking. He worked with DfT and active travel groups on the recent changes to the Highway Code to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
