Ian Bradfield

Principal Policy Lead (Roads), Welsh Government/Llywodraeth Cymru

Ian is the Head of Road Safety and Roads Policy for the Welsh Government, a Chartered Engineer with a master’s degree in Highway Engineering and has over 40 years of experience in highways and transportation.

He led the team to deliver the change in the default speed limit from 30mph to 20mph on restricted roads in Wales. One of the biggest road safety initiatives since the introduction of seat belts.  

Ian is also a Chartered Manager and Level 7 Executive Coach, and prior to working for the Welsh Government he worked for several local authorities, and consultants. Between 2002-2004 he was the president of the Institute of Highway Engineers.
