Simon Butt

As Ringway Jacobs’ Operations Director for Essex Highways, Simon oversees one of the largest outsourced local authority highway contracts in the UK. With over 600 staff and a substantial supply chain he manages all aspects of the service, including a network that comprises over 5000 miles of carriageway, 4000 miles of footway and 130,000 streetlights. Simon is a chartered civil engineer with over 25 years’ experience in highways, asset management, street lighting and drainage.

Previously as an Operations Director for Capita's Highway Services he had overall responsibility for highways maintenance activities in each of their four main Local Authority Partnerships. This included street lighting services, traffic management, highway maintenance, laboratory services, Streetworks/ permitting, asset management, drainage management and winter maintenance.

Simon also worked at A-one+, where he project managed a programme of substantial Highway Agency projects; during this time he became a Member of the Association for Project Management. Prior to this he worked as a civil engineer in the public sector for over 10 years, managing design procurement and construction services.
