Mike O'Dowd-Jones

Strategic Commissioner for Highways and Transport Services, Somerset Council

Mike is Commissioner for Somerset’s highways and transport services; ensuring £27m of services and £93m capital projects are delivered effectively; and is a member of the CIHT Learned Society and Technical Strategy Board.

Mike leads much of the collaborative working that Somerset is involved in, including the Peninsula Transport Sub-National Transport Body, development planning, highways and transport decarbonisation, delivering a Bus Service Improvement Plan and Enhanced Partnership, transforming delivery of Active Travel in Somerset and commissioning major highways and transport contracts. 

Mike is the lead officer for the ‘Wessex’ Live Labs 2 project to decarbonise local highway maintenance activity being jointly undertaken by Somerset, Hampshire and Cornwall Councils.
