Managing Director, Highways
James has been the Managing Director for the Highways business unit at Amey since 2016. Providing strategic leadership to the business, James embeds strong management disciplines focused on achieving outcomes for the communities in which Amey works. Client relationships based on partnership, delivering the highest standards of service delivery and pioneering greater innovation and collaboration across Amey and the highways industry are key focus areas for James.
James joined Amey in 2015 to lead the Strategic Highways business, and during this time secured the first Asset Delivery Led Model procured by Highways England to cover the strategic road network throughout the East Midlands.
Prior to Amey, James spent 25 years at Mouchel, latterly as part of EM Highways. Whilst at EM Highways, James was instrumental in identifying and leading on strategic roads growth opportunities. Building best practice from within his team and engaging the supply chain, James ensured a clear line of sight from front-line operations to successful outcomes which benefitted local communities and the customer. Through the involvement of the supply chain, James led EM Highways to achieve BS11000 Collaborative Business Relationship accreditation.
As a Chartered Civil Engineer, James holds Chartered memberships with the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
