Connecting Mobility

Formerly known in the UK as Siemens Traffic Controls, the company now forms part of a new division which combines Siemens' expertise at the forefront of rail technology, road traffic systems, postal automation and the air transport sectors under the name Siemens Mobility UK. Now known as Traffic Solutions, the company continues to operate from its award-winning facility in Poole, Dorset which is both its headquarters and manufacturing site.

View from the top

Mobility UK Managing Director Gordon Wakeford sees a positive year ahead for Traffic Solutions. "In these uncertain times, I am confident about our future, we have a very sound and professional, technology-based organisation and I believe we have talented and dedicated people in place to take advantage of the many opportunities that exist", he said.

"Our values of respect, excellence and innovation underpin our approach to the traffic business. We have an extensive product portfolio and people are truly prepared to make an exceptional effort to meet customer expectations, deliver successful projects and grow the business."

UK partner of choice

Traffic Solutions remains the leading supplier of traffic systems and service in the UK. Based in Poole and with more than 20 depots across the country allows service to be provided nationally. As demands for new products and systems have emerged Traffic Solutions has broadened its skill base and developed new approaches to meet the changing needs from both existing customers as well as new customers.

The business has diversified to be able to meet the requirements for both the traditional products of traffic control and emerging requirements for design service and operations. The cornerstone is still the leading edge manufacturing facility in Poole. Utilising modern, efficient techniques in manufacture allows the factory to remain competitive when benchmarked against overseas competition. A UK based manufacturing capability gives other benefits too. Repairs and spares are more easily provided and having the design engineering at the same site enables new product development to be seamlessly transferred into production. Poole's manufacturing successes and ability to utilise capacity for the benefit of all Siemens' businesses has resulted in two recent industry awards.

Add to this an industry leading training facility and a fast growing team of design service professionals and it is clear that Siemens is able to address the ever widening demands of the traffic industry today.

Demonstrating innovation & sustainability

As event partner and one of the largest exhibitors, Siemens will underline its leading position in the market at Traffex 2009 (stand C10) by unveiling new designs and equipment embracing innovation and sustainability. Visiting industry professionals will be presented with key products and services from Siemens aimed directly at addressing environmental issues, improving productivity and the quality of services, and the future of junction and street design.

New products

As a display of the company's commitment to providing innovative solutions, Siemens will demonstrate the impressive bench controller, manufactured for Transport for London as part of an initiative to minimise the impact of street furniture in an urban environment.

Additionally, the company will display LaneHawk, a new fully-automated, digital bus lane enforcement system based on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, and the latest pedestrian solutions. Offering increased road safety and significant power cost savings over conventional solutions the new ST750P Extra Low Voltage (ELV) pedestrian controller family delivers improved lamp monitoring of very low power LED traffic and pedestrian signals.
